The evolution of design comes to life with the Carvel Chair. Great design requires great patience, but in the end you are rewarded with something that goes far beyond the original concept. The Carvel Chair took a hell of a long time to create (2 years in fact), and leave it to Andrew Clancy and shipwright Matthew O’Malley of Deanta to create this functional masterpiece. Inspired by traditional ship craft, the two set sail combining materials such as felled larch (which is hand shaped and fixed with copper roves), all cradled by a bent steel black bar. This strong and flexible shape is an inventive way that inverts the ship hull which exposes the ribs, making this chair a one-of-a kind. As with many masterpieces, time and a little ingenuity can produce something that will forever leave an impression.
